Committed to ocean cleanliness, Andhra’s Coastal Engineering Institute has developed a marine debris collection robot that sails autonomously nearshore, collects floating waste, and compacts it on board. Equipped with solar charging and IoT connectivity, these medium-sized robots can clear 200 kg of plastic per day. Trials near Vishakhapatnam removed 3 tons of waste over two weeks. The robots are also fitted with bird sensors to avoid wildlife contact. Additional units will survey hazardous waste zones, helping ports maintain clean maritime corridors.
